Software Architect

Job Description

TechNova Solutions is seeking a Software Architect to set the technical direction for our cloud platform from our Seattle engineering centre. You will define reference architectures, evaluate emerging technologies, and guide multiple teams through complex migrations — balancing visionary thinking with pragmatic, hands-on involvement in critical systems. Our Seattle centre hosts the platform organisation of 400 engineers, and your architectural guidance will shape systems processing trillions of events annually.

This is an executive-track individual-contributor role for a technologist with exceptional judgement. You will present to the CTO and board on technology strategy, mentor principal engineers, and shape standards that hundreds of developers follow every day. You will also chair our technology radar council, advise on two strategic acquisitions per year from a technical diligence perspective, and receive executive coaching plus a generous conference budget.

Responsibilities

Define platform architecture vision, principles and technology roadmaps
Produce architecture decision records for major technical choices
Guide teams through migrations, re-platforming and modernisation efforts
Evaluate build-vs-buy decisions and emerging technologies
Review critical designs and establish engineering standards
Mentor principal and senior engineers across the organisation

Requirements

10+ years of software engineering with 4+ years in architecture roles
Proven track record designing large-scale distributed systems
Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and Kubernetes
Strong grasp of domain-driven design and event-driven architectures
Exceptional communication skills with executive stakeholders
Experience in regulated or high-scale environments preferred
