Netherlands Student Visa Guide for Pakistani Students (2026)

This Netherlands student visa guide explains the requirements and application process for Pakistani students planning to study in the Netherlands in 2026. Pakistani nationals need both an MVV (provisional residence/entry visa) and a Dutch study residence permit. Your Dutch university applies to the IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service) on your behalf β€” you do not apply to the IND yourself.

Visa Requirements

  • Unconditional admission to a recognised Dutch institution (an IND-recognised sponsor), full-time daytime course
  • Proof of sufficient funds for at least one year β€” IND standard amount, published by Dutch universities at €1,131/month (about €13,600 per academic year, excluding tuition)
  • Valid passport, health insurance for the Netherlands, antecedents certificate (declaration of good conduct)
  • TB test at the Municipal Health Service within 3 months of the permit being issued, where applicable

Application Process

  1. Secure admission and submit the documents your university's international office requests.
  2. The university applies to the IND (TEV procedure) and invoices you for the IND fee, tuition and financial-means proof.
  3. IND decision β€” generally 2–5 weeks (longer in the May–August peak season).
  4. Collect your MVV at the Dutch embassy/consulate in your country of residence (sticker in your passport, valid 90 days). Do not book flights until you have approval and the MVV.
  5. Arrive and collect your residence permit β€” biometrics at the IND desk, then the permit card.

Fees & Processing Time

  • IND fee: €254 for the study application (some universities collect €286 via their portal) β€” confirm current amounts on ind.nl; IND revises fees regularly
  • Processing: 2–5 weeks normally; allow 60–90 days in peak season

Working While You Study

  • Up to 16 hours/week in term time, full-time in June–August (employer needs a TWV work permit)
  • Keep at least 50% of study credits per year or the IND can withdraw the permit

After Graduation

Apply for the orientation year (zoekjaar) β€” 12 months to find work or start a business, convertible to a Highly Skilled Migrant permit.
