This Denmark study visa guide for Pakistani students walks through the Danish student residence permit process run by SIRI, the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration. Denmark does not issue a classic visa sticker for long study stays — you apply for a residence and work permit as a student through the official New to Denmark portal.
Who can get a Danish student residence permit
You must be admitted to a higher educational programme in Denmark (academy profession, professional bachelor's, bachelor's, part-time master's or master's degree) and study full time. EU/EEA and Swiss citizens do not need a residence permit — this guide is for non-EU applicants such as Pakistani students.
Money and fees (2026 levels, official SIRI figures)
- Self-support requirement: a disposable amount of DKK 7,426 per month (2026 level), multiplied by the number of months of study — capped at 12 months, i.e. a maximum of DKK 89,112. Only liquid assets count; bank statements must be no more than 30 days old and in your own name.
- Processing fee: DKK 3,060.
- Normal processing time: 2 months (up to 3 months if more information is needed).
How to apply
- Get admitted to a Danish higher educational programme.
- Your educational institution completes the first part of the application online.
- Create a case order ID and pay the SIRI processing fee.
- Complete your part of the application with the required documents (passport, admission proof, financial documentation).
- Submit biometrics as instructed and await the decision.
Working while studying
Students in state-approved programmes get a limited work permit: 90 hours per month from September to May, and full-time in June, July and August. After completing a full programme, graduates can get a 6-month or 3-year job-seeking residence permit.
