Job Description

Teaching jobs in Japan don’t come more established than the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme — the Japanese government’s flagship scheme placing university graduates in schools across Japan as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs). The 2026–2027 application window is now open, with a deadline of 13 November 2026 (3PM EST) for the Canada stream; other countries apply through their local Japanese embassy or consulate.

Responsibilities

- Team-teach English with Japanese Teachers of English in elementary, junior and senior high schools
- Help prepare teaching materials and support extracurricular activities
- Contribute to international and cultural exchange programmes in the local community

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree before departure (any discipline)
- Citizenship of the country you apply through; excellent English language skills
- Interest in Japanese culture and working with young people
- Selection: online application, document screening, interview (late January), results in April
