Job Description

The Gauteng Department of Health is recruiting 60 Staff Nurse Grade 1s (reference REFS/056732) in the Nursing Services directorate at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. The posts pay R229,440 per year plus service benefits, and no previous work experience is required after SANC registration as a Staff Nurse. The closing date is 9 October 2026.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Provide basic clinical nursing care within your scope of practice
- Develop and implement basic patient care plans
- Support quality patient care and prepare patients for diagnostic and surgical procedures
- Maintain appropriate patient records and use nursing and hospital resources economically
- Work with other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Rotate through departments and work night duty as required

REQUIREMENTS
- Hold a qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Staff Nurse
- Be registered with SANC as an Enrolled Nurse / Staff Nurse with current registration for 2026
- Have no previous experience after registration with SANC as a Staff Nurse
- Knowledge of the legal and ethical framework governing public service and nursing practice
- Knowledge of relevant Acts, policies, standard operating procedures, guidelines and protocols
- Basic knowledge of Ideal Hospital Realisation and Maintenance; maintain accurate records
- Communicate effectively with patients, supervisors and colleagues; work in a multidisciplinary team
- Willing to rotate through departments and work night duty
- Applicants with foreign qualifications must provide a SAQA evaluation certificate
- CHBAH exposure is an added advantage; preference stated for current CHBAH COVID staff
