Job Description

Remitly is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer for its Messaging Platform team in Kraków, Poland. The team builds and maintains the foundation of Remitly's communication systems — notifications, transfer updates and campaign messages — processing over 100 million messages each month for customers in more than 70 countries. You will report to the local Engineering Manager and follow a hybrid model based in Remitly's Kraków city centre office, typically three days on-site and two days remote.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Lead design and scaling of event-driven systems for global customer communication. Build a unified messaging system for personalised, AI-driven communication with flexible vendor integration. Partner with product and AI teams, mentor peers and interns, and influence decisions on vendor integrations, compliance and conversational messaging.

REQUIREMENTS
7+ years building distributed, event-driven or platform systems at scale. Proficiency in Go, Java, Python or JavaScript. Experience with resilient, observable, compliant systems. Platform engineering mindset.

Follow a hybrid model: typically three days on-site in Remitly's Kraków city centre office and two days remote.

Requirements

7+ years of experience building distributed, event-driven, or platform systems at scale. Proficiency in one or more core languages (Go, Java, Python, JavaScript) and willingness to learn. Experience delivering resilient, observable, and compliant systems where reliability is non-negotiable. Excitement for platform engineering: building systems others depend on, balancing flexibility, performance, and cost efficiency. Bonus: familiarity with messaging vendors (Twilio, Braze, SES) or lifecycle marketing platforms.
