Job Description

NHS child psychiatrist jobs UK: a new permanent Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist post at Whittington Health NHS Trust in London. The vacancy closes on 4 October 2026 at 23:59, with face-to-face interviews scheduled for 17 November 2026. This is a full-time 10-session-per-week role created to meet rising demand for children's mental health services in the borough. It is a split post: community CAMHS work supporting Islington services with clinical leadership, psychiatric consultations and interventions, plus one day a week with the Paediatric Mental Health team at Whittington Hospital, including crisis assessment and management and paediatric liaison work. The post offers scope for the successful candidate to develop paediatric liaison interests further. Applicants should be enthusiastic, dynamic consultants ready to lead multidisciplinary children's services.

Responsibilities

Provide clinical leadership to Islington community CAMHS, including psychiatric consultations and interventions. Deliver crisis assessments and management with the Paediatric Mental Health team at Whittington Hospital one day per week. Lead multidisciplinary care planning for children and young people. Supervise trainees and contribute to teaching. Drive service development in response to growing demand for children's mental health care.

Requirements

GMC registration with licence to practise and Specialist Register entry in child and adolescent psychiatry. Experience in community CAMHS and paediatric liaison or crisis work. Clinical leadership skills and the ability to work across community and hospital settings. Commitment to teaching, supervision and service development.
